CIVIL REVOLUTION: WHO AM I? WHY AM I HERE?
By God’s grace, I have changed, am changing, and will continue to change as I interact with my fellow travelers on this planet. A main reason for that transformation is to honor God by being a blessing to those I’m sojourning alongside. A fundamental key to making that a reality is examining my own life first. I need to continually learn and understand my own narrative, the reasons I think, speak, and act the way I do. Then I am better positioned to love my neighbors well by helping make the world a better place through honest, open communication.
Over many years, I’ve found myself looking at my interaction with my fellow travelers on life’s road through three primary lenses: Saint, Sufferer, and Sinner.* In so doing, I have found that I am better able to read beyond the cover of the book readily visible to me (mine and others) in order to attempt to comprehend who my neighbors are with a feature-length film rather than merely a snapshot or one passing moment in their lives. In essence, I seek to understand the worldview that propels them to think, speak, and act the way they do. In this way, I am better prepared to understand the foundation upon which their identity is built and why they believe they’ve been placed on this planet. Then I will be able to have a more compelling conversation with them rather than monologuing at them.
